All learners follow the D.B.E. curriculum as prescribed in the CAPS document. The only exception is that at Port Rex, more emphasis is placed on Technology. Here, grade 8 and 9 learners receive “hands-on” experience with the tools and equipment which they will encounter in other senior technical subjects. At this early phase our learners are already exposed to Engineering Graphics and Design as well as workshop practice. This gives the learners the opportunity to make an informed decision when selecting their specialised technical subject at the end of Grade 9.

GRADES 10, 11 AND 12 COMPULSORY SUBJECTS:

ONE SPECIALISED TECHNOLOGY SUBJECT:

  • Civil Technology (Woodworking)

  • Electrical Technology (Power Systems or Didactics)

All grade 10, 11 and 12 Port Rex learners take a selection of compulsory subjects, with the additional option of one of 3 available specialized technology subjects. The selection of the technology subject is made at the end of Grade 9 on the basis of the learner’s achievement in Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology. The Technology subjects each have limits imposed on numbers by factors such as safety and the number of work stations available. Read about our technical subjects
